Qualified Retirement Plan Design and Administration

The Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 and the Pension Protection Act of 2006 have greatly expanded the ability for small business owners to increase the efficiency of a qualified retirement plan and maximize deductible tax-deferred retirement savings. However, there is not a “one size fits all” qualified plan solution for business owners – there are many types of plans and plan combinations that can potentially be used. Expertise is required to determine what plan structure best meets the specific needs of each business owner.

PWSG has years of experience in providing our business owner clients with customized retirement plan solutions. We work with our third party administrators to design a customized retirement plan structure that meets a client’s specific needs and objectives, maximizing benefits for employees who deserve to be rewarded while complying with statutory requirements which ensure non-discrimination. We serve as the team leader for all components of this “end-to-end” solution: design consultation, plan implementation, annual administration, and investment management of plan accounts.

The process beings with a no-obligation, no-cost “Pension Feasibility Study” to determine the most appropriate retirement plan option(s), based specifically on a client’s funding goals and business structure. We also utilize the Pension Feasibility Study to evaluate a client’s current retirement plan structure, with the intention to identify alternatives that can improve efficiency.

Wealth Management for Professional Athletes

At PWSG, we are familiar with the highly unique financial situations of today’s professional athletes. We also understand the critical need for sound financial planning in order to ensure that a professional athlete’s limited earnings period can adequately sustain his or her post-professional retirement phase.

The professional athlete’s Agent serves as the Captain of the athlete’s TEAM of advisors. As a member of this TEAM, we serve as Quarterback for the professional athlete’s financial matters. In our role as Quarterback, we aim to maximize the efficiency, control, and safety of converting a high, compressed and uncertain window of earnings into sustainable retirement savings. We also serve as Gate Keeper for the professional athlete’s financial wellbeing.

The centerpiece for our Wealth Management for Professional Athletes is the customized financial plan. Our protocol specific to the Professional Athlete also includes:

Investment Management

We provide analysis, review, and implementation of investment management programs in support of a sustainable, long term retirement phase. As the Gate Keeper of the professional athlete’s financial well being, we also provide due diligence and risk analysis of investment opportunities directed to the athlete from outside parties.

Asset Protection

Risk mitigation, in the form of appropriate asset protection measures, is paramount for ensuring that a professional athlete minimizes unnecessary losses of his or her assets to fraud, creditors, or unscrupulous litigious efforts.

Our planning protocol identifies potential risks for our professional athlete clients, and we collaborate with appropriate legal experts to implement and maintain asset protection structures. As part of our risk mitigation services, PWSG provides Divorce Planning expertise, focusing on short- and long-term financial impacts of proposed divorce settlements, including tax implications, division of property, and support payments.

Cash Management & Bookkeeping

We recognize that the day-to-day cash management and bill paying needs of professional athletes can be complex due to intense training, competition, and travel schedules. These are important support services that help maximize efficiency, control, and safety of not only the professional athlete’s daily life, but also his or her overall financial plan.

PWSG engages third party specialists to provide bookkeeping, bill-pay, and budgeting services for our professional athlete clients. As an additional layer of due diligence, we recommend that these specialists are routinely audited by an independent accounting firm – we provide referrals to firms that provide this audit service.
